Dear all,
After long and thorough discussions, it is with great regret that Herve and I are withdrawing
our nominations as Playing Director and EPA President.
We were (and still are) convinced in our abilities to deliver
on this ambitious task to improve the current dysfunctions of the association. People were asking for players to give back
to the association. We put ourselves forward as we felt that the EPA and their members would benefit from the playing and
business expertise of our team.
Our motivations were honest. Our values established around working as a team, transparency
and accountability.
However, it became very apparent that we were not wanted as much as we initially thought. Recent
communications with our president and other committee members has comforted our views that our work (and beliefs) with the
established members of the management committee (MC) will not be compatible. I came to the conclusion that if elected I would
not be able to trust and get the appropriate support from the current committee members.
I made the MC aware of the
nature of comments made on this forum regarding worries about our nationality. The response from our president once he had
consulted the whole MC was that it was not discriminatory. I don't feel that I will be able to work efficiently as the president
with members involved in that decision.
The EPA may be standing on 1 leg but is still holding. Our arrival would perhaps
have forced some of the current MC to resign, something that would have left the association in further chaos. This isn't
our intention and in the interest of our friends, future and current members of the EPA. We both reluctantly agreed that the
best solution for ENGLISH petanque was for us to stand down.
Our work and commitment to the game will not stop there.
We will still continue working on "what we believe is right" for the game but separately from the EPA.
While most people
recognized the need for change, we will judge this 2010 MC in their ability to listen to: - what members want - giving
it to them - and telling them that they have given it to them
We will be the first ones to praise their success.
Some people on the committee felt that time was needed and time they will be given.
Now, only time will tell.
Jerome
(with Herve's agreement)
Ps - thank you to the hundreds of peoples that have recently expressed their support. We know
who you are and are very appreciative of it.
Hello,
I have found your e-mail address on the website
of your club, region or from my own contact list. Very soon, all members of the EPA will receive the paperwork for a postal
vote to decide who is going to be regional candidate and president of the EPA for the next two years. This ballot is very
important for the long term future of our sport and members will have to choose whether they are happy with the way the association
is currently managed or whether change is urgently required. I would be very grateful if you could encourage members
of your club or region to vote so that the election result is accurately represent the whole EPA membership. You will
see from my profile below that I believe that our sport needs a new management style:
"I have been playing Petanque for 27 years and understand
the varying needs of players at club, regional, national and international level. I am not the only one in thinking that the
EPA is at a very crucial cross road, members are declining and competition like the inter-regional championship or the national
titles are struggling to attract interest from players. I am a team player and by voting for me the EPA will get contributions
from many experienced players and organisers, all passionate people who have already committed their involvement on the basis
of my election. I will make sure that the newly appointed Management Committee members together with those already in place
work concurrently towards bringing the best value for money to all EPA members. The EPA needs to reconnect with its regions
so that grass root players recognise the benefits of being part in the national association. I strongly believe that only
as a team we can deliver well organised competition where everybody can compete at the level they aspire. We can manage the
development of umpires and coaches so that they can be encouraged to reach higher levels of expertise. In return, this pool
of competent individuals will contribute to the development of the game and add value to every EPA member. I will set a clear
vision with short medium and long term objectives and I will make sure that together we carry out the required transformation
with a culture of transparency and accountability."
If you need more information on my/our vision to
develop English Petanque or if you want to contribute new ideas, please don't hesitate to reply to this e-mail. Your comments
will be very much appreciated. Sorry if you have received this e-mail several times...
Thank you for your time,
Jerome.

EPA Director of Playing |
|
I regret to announce that today I have reluctantly
accepted the resignation, with immediate effect, of Martin Eggleton from the office of Director of Playing.
Recent conversations and comments
have led Martin to believe he no longer has the confidence of the players and without that he feels it inappropriate to continue
in the position.
I am genuinely sorry to loose Martin who I have come
to depend on as a valued member of our committee.
